Call for Contributions

Call for Contributions!

LIRIC is looking for voices shaping the future of writing for wellbeing and creative writing for therapeutic purposes. We encourage submissions that deepen contemporary understanding, challenge current assumptions and foster ongoing, meaningful dialogue, and we are particularly interested in work which bridges research and professional practice.

We publish articles by researchers, educators, therapists, psychologists, nurses, medical practitioners and those working in other sectors to improve health outcomes, creative writers, those with lived experience, and interdisciplinary professionals from around the world. We value diversity and openness to cultural, methodological, philosophical, and theoretical perspectives. If your work explores the benefits that writing has for wellbeing, health or therapeutic practice, we’d love to hear from you.

What can you submit?

We welcome a range of contributions, including:

● Original research articles

● Scholarly and reflective essays

● Practice and methods notes

● Personal and case reflections

● Interviews and professional conversations

● Viewpoints and commentaries

Catch up on October's LLRC with Geoff Mead.

Beyond the City Walls: Finding imaginal resources for healing and growth

Led by Geoff Mead, Associate Professor of Narrative Leadership, this session explored how creative writing can enable us to become more open to the possibility of finding helpful resources beyond the limits of our day-to-day imagination. If as James Hillman says, ‘we can only lead the lives we can imagine’ then how can we use CWTP to access the Mundis Imaginalis where we might encounter radically different ideas and voices to enrich our understanding and support generative change? Geoff shared something of the process he developed during his MSc dissertation (using mythological research, poetry, collage, and creative dialogues) asking the question: ‘How do I grow old? The session touched on issues of life stages, narrative identity, and the dialogic self, with a gentle invitation to explore personal issues with a structured writing activity invoking the imaginal.

Catch up on September's LLRC, with Professor Kim Etherington

Hosted by Professor Kim Etherington, this session offered a space for discussion and exploration of what encourages or stops people contributing their knowledge to the developing field of words and writing for wellbeing by sharing their work through publication. Kim provided practical guidance on how to use the knowledge gained from your research to create a journal article.

Catch up on August's LLRC, with Dr Buki Akilapa and Sue Spencer

In this session the hosts held a conversation about Buki's recent LIRIC article, 'Journey of Reflection: Girlhood, Migration, Grief and Healing Through Soul Work'. Their dialogue explored the complex and important ideas in her writing, charting a journey from unnamed, inherited patterns to self-compassion and re-cognition; and the Lapidus members who joined Sue and Buki were given the opportunity to reflect, write, and share.

Peer reviewers wanted!

We're looking to grow our community of peer reviewers.

If you have expertise in writing, creativity, health, wellbeing or a related discipline, we'd love to hear from you. LIRIC values thoughtful, constructive peer review that supports authors in developing their work while maintaining high scholarly standards.

Whether you're an experienced reviewer or would like to become involved for the first time, we'd be delighted to hear from you.

Coming soon at LIRIC!

We believe publication should be the beginning of a conversation.

As our new editorial team develops the journal, we're excited to expand how we share and celebrate research. Alongside published articles, we're developing author interviews, featured conversations and other opportunities to connect research with practitioners, educators, clinicians and the wider writing for wellbeing community. Watch this space...!
